WW2 Pictures

Here are some pictures that a visitor to acepilots.com got from his uncle, who was with the Seabees on Okinawa during WW2. One picture had "Jap plane coming in to surrender" written on the back. Another was taken with his uncle on the beach at Okinawa....notice the leg and foot sticking out of the sand. On the back of that picture was a note to his brother back home. Also included is a picture of an Ernie Pyle marker where Ernie was lost.

This was a somewhat difficult aircraft to identify, but it looks like an A-26 Invader. I looked all over my site, and couldn't ID it. Then I Googled furiously for 15-20 minutes. Finally, Wikipedia mentioned an "eight-gun variant" on the A-26. Here are some pictures of the A-26 eight-gun variant, which match this photo very well.
