Iraq Casualties Over Time
Over at Iraq Coalition Casualty Count, they have added an animated map of casualties over time. It takes a minute or so to run. I recommend it.
ICCC reports and summarizes the casualties accurately and informatively, notwithstanding their anti-war views.
When viewing a graphic like the animated map, I suppose anyone will see what they want to see. For my part, I see a struggle that's happening mostly in Baghdad, in its southern & western fringes, and perhaps in Mosul (up North).

well, you said it already, I guess people will interpret this graphic in their own way. Two things strike me, apart from the focus on baghdad that you mentioned. first, the so-called 'sunni triangle' we heard so much about doesn't shout out fom the map. second, that in the last few months the fighting seems more spread out - US operations in the east, insurgent attacks in the north?
