Preconquista

Marxist dialectical analysis of trends permits The Commissar to map developments in Spain in coming decades.

Is cause for mourning? Only for those who do not adapt. Don't cry for me, Andalusia.

NRO Readers: Welcome. The comments, many from Spain, are also interesting.

Many years ago, when Comrade Yagoda was young man and so long before taking head of Glorious Tchekist Organs, Comrade Yagoda was member of Laborious Class and happened to do job in certain arab country recently let off easy from Lockerbie murders by weak cowards Western capitalists.

Comrade Yagoda was working in small desert town and remembers seeing--hanging in stores and in classrooms--maps of world in which arab world was colored green. Green line stopped in Poitiers (France) where Charles Martel stopped Sarracens in 732 A.D.

Was long time ago. Useful Idiot Carter not even President yet... Comrade Yagoda no spring chicken any more but remembers well being in belly of Beast. Nothing new under the Sun Comrades, nothing new under the sun...

Isn't it true that Spain and Italy had very moorish influences. And in fact the original settlers of the two countries were from the Lands of Arabia?
Just checking, pardon me if I am wrong.
Sicily, I think has more Arabic and Moorish influences than Italian.
Sorry again, Comrades, if I am wrong

Extracted from: Ravages at March 16, 2004 11:05 AM

Moorish control of Sicily and lower Italy was over by the 9th or 10th centuries. Cultural influence and trade ties stayed a bit stronger for much of the Middle Ages.

In Spain, the Moors owned Andalusia until 1492! And the main dynamic of Spanish history from 711 to 1492 was the Christian-Muslim conflict, the 'reconquista.'

Every 100 years or so, Spain makes a move that takes her to the very bottom pit of history. Last Sunday we made our last one. Bye, bye, Europe!!
(I'm thinking seriously of leaving this filthy country... but then I look at the people of Madrid, my fellowmen who SUFFERED THE 200 DEAD... and, surprisingly, THE POPULAR PARTY WON HERE, IN MADRID.
So we will pay for the cowardice of others... This is all so, so, so, so sad...

Excuse my english, please. Could you show any american map from 711 to 1492, with their most importan cities, kingdoms or any other political distribution?
Maybe from 1492 to 1750?
Thank you very much.

Extracted from: Curious at March 19, 2004 11:19 AM

Wow, really convincing. Well, apart from the fact that only a third of the immigrants coming to Spain are Muslim, and the reality of a rather different response if you're talking about territorial conquests. (Remember that al-Qaeda doesn't have a military wing, and trying to put a Maghrebin alliance up against a Spain with a technically superior air force and navy would be just sad.)

Try harder.

This is a comment on the:

"show any american map from 711 to 1492, with their most importan cities, kingdoms or any other political distribution?" rant from Curious.

I say, going this route is at least unproductive if not suicidal for Spaniards (who have shown lately that they really are).

Looking at the world map, one cannot help it but reflect how Spaniards had half of the then-known world in their hands, and managed to squander it - and what they didn't squander, screw up forever by their legacy of incompetence, religion, and overall backwardnes. So, go easy on the "history" thing with this one, will you?

Comrade Commissar, you do very fine job. You teach good to capitalist imperialist dogs - one day maybe they become smart like you.

Dear Commissar,

Reading some of the comments left here reminds me that you have not executed (in every sense of the word) a purge of the Blogosphere in quite a while. Perhaps this time will be soon?

I would appreciate it if you could email me a job application, and I could send you my resume listing my many brilliant performances of crushing the running-dog imperialist lackeys over the years.

Me, I'm not greedy. I'll be happy just pulling the trigger. Heh.

The first settlers to the Iberian Peninsula were Celts, from France. The Celts had come from many places before, like Britain and Germany. So the Celts were a salad bowl already when they found the primitive inhabittants of Iberia, the Iberians (these were to Iberia, like the Indians were to America). The Celt-Iberians (juction of the two civilisations) spread across the Peninsula and nuances began to appear. In the North, tall and light skinned and hair people, in the South, brunnete and short people. Then the Romans came. And if you don't know the rest of this piece of History, you should, because Portugal and Spain divided the world into two halves in the Treaty of Tordesillas. So we basically ruled the world, 400 years ago. But, and if some of you spaniards don't understand, we have to give kudos to the Americans for in 200 years of History doing what we, Portuguese and Spanish people, done in 500. So, stop the fucking whining and help us do right fight : kick the fuck out of terrorism.

P.S. : And the participation level was around 68%. Owned.
