Century John and Czechoslovakia

First Read - MSNBC.com

McCain just said the United States should set up a missile defense system in Czechoslovakia. Should we assume he meant the Czech Republic?

Czechoslovakia hasn’t existed for 15 years. Perhaps McSame wants to look into basing them in the Free City of Danzig, too.

Free City of Danzig? Surely you mean the Teutonic Order! Deus vult!

Details, details Stephen. I’m sure he ws trying to be Presidential by really implying that the missles will be based at “our secret base in Shangri-La.” [Link for those under 50].

McCain is the oldest candidate ever to run for President. Looks to me that, if he’s elected, his first term will be similar to Reagan’s second.

We’d better have a close look at Cindy McCain’s astrologer then.

I’ve made that same mistake myself, at least three or four times over the years. I have a smug friend who, when she was working on EUCOM issues, used to delight in reminding me that I’d forgotten again.

I’m a little younger than McCain, too.

It is kinda funny. I remember my train ride from Venitsia to Budapest…and there were a whole lot more borders than my addled and aged brain remembered there being.

But I got a lot of cool stamps on my passport.

I’ve called the Czech Republic by the wrong name once or twice myself. In my defence, so have the hockey commentators on the CBC, they kept the Czechoslovakian flag, and hell, I’m not running for POTUS. Besides, it’s funny when people I don’t like make mistakes that are just a bit sad when I make them.
