The Push in Bughdad?

Commanders Say Push in Baghdad Is Short of Goal

Three months after the start of the Baghdad security plan that has added thousands of American and Iraqi troops to the capital, they control fewer than one-third of the city’s neighborhoods, far short of the initial goal for the operation, according to some commanders and an internal military assessment.

I was struck by this image of General Ray Odierno (you must click to embiggen - do it now):

It reminded me of this:

No deep, nor pointed commentary is intended in this post, but “Starship Troopers” just popped into my head when I saw General Odierno. Actually there was a tough officer in the movie, Lt. Rasczak:

Now, if we could just find the brain behind the insugency, we’d be all set.

Starship troopers, the book that is, is actually eerily similar to a lot of things these days, minus the one world government.

The pic is great! The only invidious comparison is the unavoidable (because it’s Starship Troopers after all) implication that our opponents in Iraq are insects.
