Atheists need not apply

Gallup Poll: What groups Americans would not vote for

PZ Myers will erupt in five, four, three, two …

Actually, all this poll measures are the prejudices that people know they should not admit to. Everyone knows you can’t admit to being prejudiced against blacks or Catholics, but the godless and the homos would seem to be fair game. As for the old geezers, …. having just visited my octogenarian parents … “No comment.”

I used that poll to point out to my gay friend that I was more oppressed than he was.

Dawkins tried to promote the word ‘brights’ to describe atheists (and, I think, secular humanists). Bah! Who needs it?

I am godless heathen, and proud of it.

Don’t worry after I stagger back to church I’ll put in a good word with the Father, Son and Holy Spirit for you two. We Lutherans are a pretty understanding lot. BTW, as I understand it, Jesus loves you guys any way (heck he even loves moslems). He just won’t take no for an answer.

“O.K. we’ll take the Blacks and the Catholics… but no Godless Homos!

    Aaahhh, prairy poop…”

Blazing saddle reference, one of my favorites

I always thought that “Brights” sounded contrived and self-satisfied. When I’m around atheists, I call myself an atheist. Around the religious, I call myself a secular humanist, as part of a long term plan to let them know I/we stand for something positive and don’t hate God because I’m a tool of Satan.

The phrase “godless heathen” I reserve for people who drink light beer or put white vinegar on their french fries.
