Rove Won’t Be Charged in C.I.A. Leak Case

The prosecutor in the C.I.A. leak case on Monday advised Karl Rove, the senior White House adviser, that he would not be charged with any wrongdoing, effectively ending the nearly three-year criminal investigation that had at times focused intensely on Mr. Rove. The decision by the prosecutor, Patrick J. Fitzgerald, announced in a letter to Mr. Rove’s lawyer, Robert D. Luskin, lifted a pall that had hung over Mr. Rove who testified on five occasions to a federal grand jury about his involvement in the disclosure of an intelligence officer’s identity. In a statement, Mr. Luskin said, “On June 12, 2006, Special Counsel Patrick Fitzgerald formally advised us that he does not anticipate seeking charges against Karl Rove.”

Meanwhile, Jason Leopold, of the laughably named Truthout.org, continues to spin bizarre fantasies about Sealed vs. Sealed, supposedly Karl Rove’s super double secret probation indictment. It’s so secret that it’s note even titled U.S. vs Sealed; I guess the proceedings will be held on the planet Tralfamadore, in Klingon.

Meanwhile Christy Hardon Smith at LiarDogFake refuses to give up the chase:

If Luskin is coming out and saying publicly that they got a letter from Pat Fitzgerald which says that Rove will not be charged, … what does the letter actually say, word for word;
… a letter freeing-up Rove (if, indeed, that is what it fully does…) … a bit of overhype, frankly …
.. the be all and end all of the case was not the ultimate criminal charges, but …

… unless and until I hear it from Fitzgerald, the investigation continues to be ongoing. …

… I really want to see whatever wording was in the letter … just what IS going on with all of this …

Here’s what I do know: … On another front, … Here is why I say that …

It seems that Fitz … We’ve known all along that … One has to wonder if … I’d sure like to see what Fitz has …

I love the part about “criminal charges not being the ‘be-all-and-end-all” of the case. So federal prosecutors pursue grand jury investigations for months on end … just for Christy’s amusement, to help her make political points? And her other futile speculation is pathetic. As for the hypocrisy of such a Fitzmas-o-phile calling anything “overhype” … there are no words. Christy should just give it up. It is over. The fat lady has sung. Finis. Move on.

This is all so comical. Normally, in political fights, the argument of “well, my guy has not actually been indicted,” is the weakest, lousiest case to make to the public. But this time, because the Lefties have invested so much time, energy, and their so-called credibility in pursuit of their great white whale, because they even made up a holiday name for it, Fitzmas, with 215,000 Google hits and its own Wikipedia entry, I will take great pleasure in laughing at them. Ha ha ha!

Well, since there are no rules and laws left in our country to abide by and because our Fuehrer and his men are teaching our children and us to break the laws and then give the finger to ‘justice’, I say let’s take to the streets! In the 1990’s Clinton taught us that oral sex is fun, oh but in the Snake Eye years, Americans are learning that corruption, lying, deceiving, and committing ANY crime is okay!

I’m crediting it to KosVegas… all that Moonabt “energy” in his town angered the ghost of Bugsy Siegel, so we got Zarqawi getting pow-eed; Iraqis got their gov’t together, and now this….

It’s a bad day to be a Moonbat.

not really, this moonbat was hoping for this
not being indicted does not mean no wrong doing, in fact it simply makes this administration look all the more dirty. Lets see Zarqawi’s death doesn’t seem to impress much either. The Iraqi gov got it together? In name only. Results matter folks not predictable PR stunts. Do go on folks I’m loving it

Fitz cannot prove Rove lied about it, so Rove slips away. Hardly anything to be proud of though.

See? High-larity, right there in 21 words. Rove not getting indicted is proof they’re dirtier than ever! What’s next, the fix was in with Fitz? Is that gonna be the story if his Libby case blows up in his face?

I think #3 and maybe #11 said it quite well. Remember if recent history teaches anything it is that the American public is more impressed with someone who admits they did wrong and apologizes than someone who just gets away with it though legal moves.

The relevant fact is that the White House *lied* in saying that Rove had nothing to do with the leak, when he was forced to later admit he did.

And, Bush has been shown to have *lied* when he said no one who was ‘involved in leaking her name’, which he considered a ‘very serious’ wrong, would be in the White House.

His original story was that it was unlikely to find out who was involved - it could have been thouands of people. Well, it wasn’t, we know. And he has broken his promise.

And finally, this is - correctly - one factor in his low approval ratings.

Someone must have pushed the “irony” button today: how else can you explain NeoCons telling libs they shouldn’t count their chickens while at the same time over-celebrating minor victories like the Iraqi gov (Wow, 3 years to appoint ministers) and the Zarqawi kill.

Ahh to be so certain… Well time to go to Free Republic and read some reader comments where I’m sure they won’t be prematurely gloating about the Rove announcement. There is a civil suit, BTW.

Hey, TC. No “S”. But the Left still called it a rightwing witch hunt. When Conservatives took the same stance as you they were ridiculed as partisan freaks.

    Madmatt,
The point being that when a Leftie favorite isn’t indicted they are inocent. When one of the evil “Bushies” isn’t indicted they are guilty. I don’t get the logic maybe you can translate for me.

And its not over yet, we still have libby and others down to prosecute down the line”

When you have some substance let me know. As, TC has already pointed out many a Clintonistas were convicted of felony crimes. Besides how much has Fitzmas cost? How many convictions has your nonpartisan Champion of truth and justice won so far?

There is a difference between Whitewater and Plame, Whitewater did not involve national security Plame did. What is interesting is that Republicans did not consider Patrick Fitzgerald partisan until he actually indicted someone, then when he did the job he was brought in to do he was called a hack. Personally I never thought Rove would be indicted, if there was ever any real chance of that his body would have been found face down in the Potomac. Jason Leopold is/was a tool simple as that.

  23. John the Marine wrote:

Yeh, like Vince Foster’s body on a park bench? Come on! Moonbat. This type of thing didn’t work for the Right in the 90’s and it doesn’t work now for the Left either.

Also, the “National Security” angle doesn’t hold water as well. Ms Plame, poor lamb that she is, wasn’t under cover and never claimed to be. The only security problem was caused by her asshat husband, who she recommended, playing politics.

  24. Craig wrote:

john the marin, you are posting lies.

Valerie Plame was undercover until Novak posted her name.

You say she ‘never claimed to be undercover’. Uh, she still works at the CIA and hasn’t said much of anything. Why don’t you try to keep up with the facts?

The CIA referred her outing for criminal investigation based on her being undercover. Former and current CIA officials and officers, on and off the record, have made it clear she was a NOC, the most undercover spy.

The people playing politics were not her husband, but the white house, trying to lie to the American people about their case for war.

And she did not ‘recommend’ Wilson for the visit. He was very well qualified, and was selected by CIA officials who then simply asked her to write a summary of his qualifications after they had identified him. The CIA *said* this.

Get a damn clue and show some honor, alleged marine: stop the lies.

My Department of Defense Form 214 credits me, and rightfully so, with four years of honorable service in the United States Marine Corps 06/21/1988 - 06/23/1992, including combat in South West Asia (Saudi & Kuwait). I piss on you and your BS pretensions.
