Let’s repeal the First Amendment

Because it does not apply any more.

Bill Hobbs, fired from his job for running Muhammed cartoons on his blog. Notably, his firing was sparked by a hit piece by a Leftie. Apparently the Left is pleased to make common cause with the Islamists, if they can “take down a wingnut.”

Scott Savage, a librarian, investigated for “sexual harassment” by Ohio State University, for recommending a list of four conservative books.

The South Park cartoon TV show censored images of Muhammed. At least two Lefties, Roxanne Cooper and PZ Myers, suggest this is a PR stunt by Comedy Central, without any evidence. Perhaps evidence is only important in some areas.

Borders refused to carry an issue of the magazine Free Inquiry, that featured the Muhammed cartoons on the cover. Borders explicitly noted that they did so out of fear of violence.

crosses002.jpgSally Jacobsen, a Leftie professor, tore apart a Right-to-Life display on the Northern Kentucky University campus, a display that the University had authorized and permitted on that location.

Borders only places the Koran on the top shelf. No other revered text is thus privileged to sit, literally, above all others. I did not believe this until I saw it at my local Borders (Citigroup Center, 153 E. 53rd St., NYC).

I would expect Lefties, who profess to be deeply concerned about infringements of the Bill of Rights, to care about these matters. But they don’t. Here is Josh Marshall (earlier in February on the Danish cartoon flap):

“It’s not the US or the West versus Islam. At least it’s not that simple. In any case, the government in this country is too close to illiberalism, militarism and theocracy for that to work as a model. But it is there — liberalism and authoritarianism, modernity and theocracy.”

He’s very explicit. Are Muslims censoring free speech? Sorry .. “government in this country is too close to illiberalism, militarism and theocracy” for him to care.

That response still applies. George Bush is the problem. Period. ANY issue. ANY question. He is the problem. Anything else is a joke, a marketing ploy, irrelevant, more nuanced, or perhaps an isolated and regrettable instance of extremism by one of their own. The Left is not only willing to sit by passively and let creeping dhimmitude censorship be imposed; they are happy to join in.

It’s also interesting to note that all this repression occurs when Republicans control all three branches of the Federal government. I’m sure that’s great comfort to Bill Hobbs and Scott Savage.

“Freedom for me, but not for thee.”

Seriously however is it just me, or is the left more prone to ripping stuff up, chucking rocks thru windows and the like than the Moderate or Right, or is it just me?

For folks who shout peace love and happiness while strining hemp, I’ve never understood their mentality of “If you don’t agree with me I’ll tear you apart”

That politics thru strong arm tactics. Not Lawfare

    Joe,

The Left of old, the “peace, love, and brotherhood” attitude is long since dead. It’s been replaced by a scary intolerant, scorched earth type. God help us if they ever get control.

I find it strange that the Left just sits by and takes this they way they do - but the classic Liberal Left has been destroyed by the “Hey, hey, ho, ho, Western Civ has got to go..” branch of externalized self-hate cult of the far-Left.

They still talk about the threat to freedom comes from the Right, as they ban books from their bookstores, enact University and national (Canada) speech codes, and kowtow to the most retrograde force in the World, aggressive Islamism. Sigh.

That is why, the Right will have to adopt the old Left’s tactics of confrontation. Go to Borders and move the Koran next to where the Bible is. Better yet, the Book of Mormon.

    Did you flush it?

Cuz, I’m thinking Borders need some of those high-capacity Abu Ghraib toilets for this purpose.

It’s worth noting that Comedy Central also cited threats of violence as the primary reason for their wimping out.

“we decided not to air the image of Muhammad, a decision similar to that made by virtually every single media outlet across the country earlier this year when they each determined that it was not prudent or in the interest of safety to reproduce the controversial Danish cartoons. Injuries occurred and lives were lost in the riots set off by the original publication of these cartoons. The American media made a decision then, as we did now, not to put the safety and well being of the public at risk, here or abroad.”

This fear of violence really pisses me off. Are we such a nation of spineless wimps that we now take orders from backward Islam? Or even worse. Now the rest of us have to be afraid of a bunch beed shaking hippies? Not me. I’m going to make sure that ragheads and hippies every where are offended by me. Which shouldn’t be too tough, I’m a natural.
