"Yet, it would be a misuse of religion to ignore it because our religion is a complete network of values and principles."

Nice words. The Original People have heard them before and out of the depths of History I give the words of one of Our Chiefs to this claim.

Many proposals have been made to us to adopt your laws, your religion, your manners and your customs. We would be better pleased with beholding the good effects of these doctrines in your own practices,
than with hearing you talk about them".

I have been following recent news with great interest and I feel that in the spirit of equal opportunity, I as a descendant of the Ani-Yun-Wi-Ya.
(Total of all real people) should point out that I have found the lack of respect and Honor accorded the Sacred Herb of my Ancestors, highly offensive.

Oooh boy is she in for a beating. She probably doesn't wear a burkha either.

Nice to hear a moderate Muslim voice. We need more, many more of them.

You all realize she's writing from inside Yemen? And the article was first published there in Arabic?

Jane,
So, the article was written in Yemen, in Arabic? What does that have to do with the validity of her thesis? I'm simply saying that it sounds like more Islamic apologist BS.

Hi John, I thought she was saying that the authoritiarian regimes are exploiting and flaming the controversy to encourage anti-western sentiment and to consolidate their positions.

Jane, without a doubt the regimes of the middle east are fanning the flames of the current controversy. However, it seems to me that this fire was easy to start, and keep going. The Islamic Public has embraced this "cartoon controversy" with quite a bit of gusto, I don't think it took a whole lot of encouragement. The writer of the above article wants to shift the blame for Islam's rage away from Islam and onto the governments of the region. Sorry, but I don't buy it.

You got that right John

But that is not the only difficulty facing Nigeria. Muslim protests against the Danish cartoons has led to the killing of 17 people and the burning of 30 churches over the weekend in the town of Maiduguri. In an area rife with ethnic and religious unrest, this is a bad omen. The Muslim-Christian violence has flared for decades, but given the new emergence of militant, Salafist Islam and the targetting of norther Nigeria by al Qaeda operatives, it is a possible sign of a long and dangerous road ahead.

Dan,
The violence against Christians in Nigeria is indicative of the west's inability to take Islam on. The Moslems, all Moslems, know that the U.S., U.K. and the EU all lack the internal fortitude to confront the reality of Islam's teachings and what its followers believe. Islam teaches(not unlike Soviet Communism) its followers to take over the world and the Koran proscribes how the unbelievers or infidels are to be treated. (For info on this buy a translation of the holy book of Islam and read a chpt. called the "spoils of war". To make long story short what they have in store for Christians and Jews is subserviant slavery. For pagans, like Hindus or Buddist, death and destruction. Nice people eh?) So, now they brazenly attack Christians, Jews and others with little or no fear of any real reprisals. Look at Jane's last post. She, like many in the liberal west, makes excuses for them. It blows my mind that the Left is more afraid of offendings moslems than being killed by them.
