A major snow storm has hit US mid-Atlantic and north-east states, shutting down air travel and leaving thousands without power.More than 2,000 flights were cancelled in the region on Sunday morning, causing chaos at airports around the country.

New York city’s mayor, Michael Bloomberg, said the storm was dangerous and urged people to stay at home.
