Islamic Values in Kashmir

Dukhtaran-e-Millat activists burn Valentine’s Day cards in Kashmir

Nearly two dozen black-veiled Muslim women stormed gift and stationery shops Friday in Kashmir, burning Valentine’s Day cards and posters to protest a holiday they say imposes Western values on Muslim youth.

No one was hurt in the half-dozen or so incidents, and police cordoned off the area to prevent the women from marching through Srinagar’s main shopping district to continue their ransacking. The women were from the Kashmiri Islamic group Dukhtaran-e-Millat, or Daughters of the Community, Kashmir’s only women’s separatist group, whose members are also known for their fiercely conservative social views.

“We will not let anyone sell these cards or celebrate Valentine’s Day,” said Asiya Andrabi, the group’s leader, as she held a burning poster in her hand. “These Western gimmicks are corrupting our kids and taking them away from their roots.”

    The Valentine Jihad…

You know, I really do not care what other’s believe or what Holidays they wish to celebrate, unless they decide to tell ME which ones I get to celebrate or what I have to believe.

    Hello,,
I feel sad to here such a news. And let me tell something that Islam condemns this act. In fact, Islam allows other religions to practice their duties and beliefs wherever they live, even in an Islamic world. What I believe in is that these women must not do so because Islam rejects this and if they raised up their children according to the REAL ISLAMIC VALUES the will not look for things that oppose their religion..
If the parents were real muslims, their children will resemble them.

You might wish to explain that to those imprisoned in Muslim Nations such as Saudi Arabia for daring to practice their own religion in their own homes.

Let me be blunt. I do not know of a SINGLE Muslim Nation on the Face of the Earth that allows any other religion the amount of Freedom of Worship Muslims find in the West.

Give me an example of the truth of your claims
    if you please. Eman,, KSA

    Hello,,

    One simple example..
All women in KSA have to wear Al-hejab, but the foreign women are not obliged to wear it. But if they want to wear it, they can.

U told me that there are some imprisoned people in mu country, OK
did u ask them why they were imprisoned,, what did they do..

Another example, when the Valentine day comes, some shops present gifts and presents for this day, because they knew that there are some people who consider this day part of their religion and tradition, although we as Muslim never think about it..

First cartoons, now Valintine’s Day. What’s next a fatawa against smiling?!

    Eman,, KSA asks,
“did u ask them why they were imprisoned”

But Dan Kauffman already stated the reason. He said, “You might wish to explain that to those imprisoned in Muslim Nations such as Saudi Arabia for daring to practice their own religion in their own homes.”

It seems pretty clear to me. When I was in Saudi Arabia the Saudis tried to tell our Navy Chaplains that the couldn’t wear their Cross or Star of David insignia. Let me tell you that didn’t sit well with a bunch of well armed Marines. Needless to say our Wahabee hosts backed down. Also, if your curious about repression of other religions in Saudi Arabia just ask some of the westerners who have lived there while working for ARAMCO (the national oil company). They will tell you all about it. Suadi Arabs will just lie and tell you how Islam is so tolerant.

Saudi Arabia police razes makeshift Hindu temple

RIYADH: Saudi religious police have destroyed a clandestine makeshift Hindu temple in an old district of Riyadh and deported three worshippers found there, a newspaper reported on Saturday.

Members of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, or the religious police, Thursday stumbled across a room converted into a temple while raiding a number of flats suspected of being used to manufacture alcohol and distribute pornographic videos, pan-Arab Al-Hayat said.

“They were surprised to find that one room had been converted into a Hindu temple,” it said.

A caretaker who was found in the worshipping area ignored the religious police orders to stop performing his religious rituals, the paper added. He was deported along with two other men who arrived on the scene to worship.

All forms of non-Muslim worship are banned in ultra-conservative Saudi Arabia, whose laws conform to Sharia, laws based on teachings of the Koran, and Wahhabi Islam. Several human rights organizations have condemned actions by the Saudi government and its religious police, including extrajudicial punishments for any outward display of non-Muslim religious symbols. The US Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) last month urged the US government to impose sanctions on Saudi Arabia for violating religious rights.

“Mutawwa’in (religious police) continued to intimidate, abuse and detain citizens and foreigners with impunity. Most trials were closed, and defendants usually had no legal counsel,” according to the section on Saudi Arabia in the State Department annual report on human rights and democracy released on March 28, 2005.

Public and private practice of any non-Muslim religion is restricted. Non-Muslims can be arrested, lashed, or deported for any religious activity that attracts the attention of the government.

May 18, 2002 - Filipino Christians Benjamin Diaz and Danilo de Guzman were deported to Manila. They were charged for the possession of Christian CDs and a Bible, which were confiscated during a raid on their home in March of 2001. Though sentenced to 150 lashes, the two were deported after a month in prison and paying a fine for possession of the Christian materials.

May 18, 2002 - Two Ethiopian Christians being held at the Breman deportation center were beaten in the chest for half and hour by Major Bender Sultan Shabani, a prison official. Shabani was also responsible for the flogging of 3 Ethiopian earlier this year (see January 28, 2002 below).

August 19, 2001 – Over the span of three days, the following Christians have been detained by the MOI because they worshipped in private homes: Tinsaie Gizachew [Eritrean or Ethiopian], three other members of his church, Gabayu [Ethiopian], Keborom [Eritrean], Makbeab [Ethiopian], Afobunor Okey Buliamin [Nigerian], Baharu Mengistu [Ethiopian], and Beferdu [Ethiopian]. The whereabouts of these Christians are still unknown – as well as their condition.

    That should do it.

John the Marine, we probably should cut Eman, he does not sound hostile and in my experience is only repeating what he has been told and believes to be true.

Now it is true that a lot of what he has been told is Lies, but then that is called. TAQIYA, and yes I know that is a Shi’aite practice but some of the Salafah Wahhabis have been adopting it lately.

The fact is that if all Muslims were like he seems to be what he claims would be the truth, but they are not and it is not.

Doesn’t mean he is not a nice person and sincerely means what he says.

    Dan,
You’re probably right about ole Eman. However, I’ll be straight with you. Simply put, I don’t like, trust or respect Arabs in general. Their MO is to play nice to your face… but as soon as your not looking they stab you in the back. So, Eman might be a real peach here on the net, but in reality be the type to go down the street and burn a church or beat his wife (all in the name of allah). Then he’ll come back with more tails of how Islam is tolerant and a religion of peace.
