Neptunus Lex

Young Man,Congratulations on your selection to both the Naval and Air Force Academies.
Your goal of becoming a fighter pilot is impressive and a fine way to serve
your country. As you requested, I’d be happy to share some insight into
which service would be the best choice.
Each service has a distinctly different culture. You need to ask yourself
“Which one am I more likely to thrive in?”

Don’t miss this letter. Classic.

****. I’m too old to join the Navy.

Actually, 30+ years ago while I was in college (this was during the Viet Nam war) I was interested in joining the Air Force and talked to a recruiter about being a fighter pilot. I was told that I was too tall; at 6′4″ I was deemed ineligible as it would be too difficult to stuff me into the cockpit of a fighter. They would only take you if you were something like 5′10″ or less. Thus ended my military career.

I mean, I’m still kind of bitter about this. How hard could it be to design a Warthog with a little extra leg room, so I could have participated in air-ground operations?

I consider myself as a victim of pernicious discrimination. Tallism.
