Google has been been spending its considerable resources on three, related, very interesting areas:

  • a dumb, network based computer called the Google Cube, a cheap, small box that needs to be connected to a server to be fully working
  • GooOS, the new OS for the Google Cube
  • “dark fiber,” the fiber-optic cable that’s already been laid, but is not yet in use. Thousands of miles of dark fiber are available in the United States, but there have been few takers because of the high costs of making it operational.

    About 6-8 months ago I had someone hit my blog with a Google OS. I couldn’t believe my eyes. A web search at the time showed fewer than ten web pages revealing that others had a similar visit. Some were speculating at the time that it was being tested. Guess they were right.
