World War Two, aviation history, and related topics

Read about aces like Pappy Boyington, Butch O'Hare,  Chuck Yeager, Manfred von Richthofen (The Red Baron), Eddie Rickenbacker, & Erich Hartmann, or about pioneering aviators like Charles Lindbergh, Amelia Earhart, and Howard Hughes.

Or great planes like the P-51 Mustang, P-38 Lightning, P-47 Thunderbolt, B-17 Flying Fortress, and the Sopwith Camel.

All the World War II theatres, services, and fighter planes are included: P-47 Thunderbolt pilots with the 56th Fighter Group of the 8th Air Force, Marine Corsair aces of Guadalcanal and the Solomons, carrier based Navy Hellcat pilots, and USAAF fighter pilots who flew the P-38 over New Guinea and the Philippines.

Since writing that introduction in 1999, I have greatly expanded this website, covering many other aspects of World War Two and aviation. The site now features a large section on World War One aviators and aircraft. The inter-war period, the so-called 'Golden Age of Aviation,' when fliers like Charles Lindbergh and Amelia Earhart captured the world's imagination, is covered. For that period, I have some fascinating material from my Dad (when he was a young aviation enthusiast) - the Hall of Fame of the Air cartoon feature, as well as some aircraft photos he took.

Within the topic of WWII aviation, there are some articles on German aces and fighter planes, as well as American bombers. So, enthusiasts of Erich Hartmann, the Bf109, the B-17 Flying Fortress, etc. will find much here.

And there is a lot more. Like almost everyone else on the planet, I have a blog - The Politburo Diktat covering news and politics. For discussion and questions, there is a Forum. There is even some of my family history and a Dictionary of Shakespeare.

Site note: I have recently changed this page to use drop-down menus. The earlier, table-layout index is still available if anyone prefers that. Please email me with any comments about the new drop-down menus, especially if you can't find a familiar page.

Welcome! Look around and enjoy.
